2 Corinthians 4:6 (KJV)

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ

Is the light to shine out of the darkness a metaphor for good against evil or is he referring to a literal event when God commanded the light to shine out of darkness  by switching star light back on ? Or , I favour this is  referring to God’s command of Genesis 1:3.
