An extract from  the book ‘God’s Kosmos-Ruah Metaphor’

In Genesis 1, God uses the whole world to metaphorise Man’s spirit but in Genesis 2 He uses Eden (Eden has a literal meaning of ‘delight’ which may be how God views saved-Man’s spirit).  Obvious parallels become apparent once this is realised. The following is an extract from the GKRM book (Chapter 3).

As the Trinity does for life on planet Earth (a kosmos) they seem to do the same for Man’s spirit (his ruah).

More parallels – the Holy Spirit/Jesus and Eden (Genesis 2:8-18)

Genesis 2 does not actually say the plants within the garden are created or made, and provides for a striking parallel…

Genesis 2:8-9 (KJV): … planted… (and)… made the LORD God to grow…

Planet Earth was a perfect creation and (in Gap Theory) falls into a satanically induced death-and-darkness judgement. God remakes it with the added special, new, central creation of the Garden of Eden ‘planted and made to grow’ from Heaven. Out of the belly of life on Earth, through Eden, flow rivers that give life to Eden and all around.

Humans suffer a satanically induced fall into darkness and spiritual death, and are reborn with indwellings from Jesus and the Holy Spirit, ‘planted and made to grow’ from Heaven. This leads to ‘living water’ proceeding out of the belly of Man’s “spirit man”, which gives abundant life (by yielding fruit) to those around (John 7:38).

Some further parallels are revealed in the properties of the ‘living water’ given to Man by the Holy Spirit in the literal meaning of the names of the rivers: Pison, Gihon, Hiddekel and Euphrates, which mean “increase”, “bursting forth”, “rapid” and “fruitful” respectively (John 15:2).

I suggest that some specific actions of the ‘living water’ are given in the literal meanings of the places they reach (general biblical meanings are in brackets).

Pison reaches or encircles Havilah (circle), where there is gold (this can mean splendour), bdellium (a fragrant resin from a tree) and onyx (precious metals and stones). Gihon encapsulates the whole of Ethiopia (‘kush’ – can have meaning of a faraway or “future” land with treasures). Please note ‘east’ can be considered moving towards God, as the Garden (representing God’s indwelling in Man) is planted ‘eastward in Eden’. Assyria (‘assur’) can mean a step or going forward. Euphrates is only described with its name, and it means fruitful (perhaps an indication of the prime attribute and action of the Holy Spirit-“activated” waters in this metaphor).

Please note that the root word used for ‘land’ (‘eres’) is the same as for ‘earth’ (Man’s spirit or God in the KRM) throughout Genesis, and it is used here with ‘whole’ (‘kol’) for the first two rivers, Pison and Gihon. ‘Kol’ will be significant throughout this book; I will show, it has a basic meaning of an interaction between God and Man and here, this renders ‘Pison’ and ‘Gihon’ as possibly representing interactions with the indwelt Jesus (‘gold’ – splendour) and the Holy Spirit (‘bdellium’ – the Holy Spirit’s function is often likened to trees).

The function of precious stones and Man is debated, I believe the ‘lively stones’ of 1 Peter 2:5  are a reference to their function – with the ‘lively’ being literal.) The exact function of precious ‘lively stones’ remains a mystery to me, though.

So, with the literal meaning of the destinies and paths of the Eden rivers in mind, it may be that the ‘living water’ that proceeds out of saved Man’s belly is intimately related to functioning precious stone “gifts” in Man’s spirit; contains gained aspects from Jesus and the Holy Spirit; separates Man’s spirit from darkness; moves away from darkness towards God; and is always fruitful.

So, did Jesus hint at Gap Theory by referencing this text when He said that ‘scripture says living water will flow out of our bellies’ (John 7:38), because I can find no scripture that does explicitly say that (with emphasis on bellies being included)? However, the metaphor of the rivers of Eden with ‘living water’ does describe it in detail. The metaphor only really works with Gap Theory, as the Garden of Eden is planted on a remade Earth and the Holy Spirit and Jesus are “planted” in a newly born-again Christian.

What God does for life on the born-again Earth (a ‘kosmos’), so He will do for Man’s born-again spirit (a ‘ruah’). A prophetic seam throughout Genesis?
