An extract from  the book ‘God’s Kosmos-Ruah Metaphor’

Within this “prolonged metaphor”, I also propose that God sets up three very specific and precise comparisons, doubly constructive in nature, one I will describe in Chapter 11, one in Chapters 15 and 16 and the first of these comparisons is: (I)

1. The conditions and life (flora and fauna) on the previous or first created world will represent Adam’s pre-fallen spiritual condition and how all men were meant to be as well as reflecting Jesus as God.

2. The conditions and life (flora and fauna) on the newly remade world will represent the condition of every saved-Man’s spirit as well as reflecting Jesus as a man.

And also within the “prolonged metaphor”:

The condition of the judged Earth in Genesis 1:2 will represent Adam’s and sinful Man’s “fallen state”, or spiritual condition.

The Genesis six days simultaneously describe the Triune God’s individual roles in remaking life on Earth and remaking Man’s fallen spirit; born-again Earth and a born-again spirit.

‘Why can I say this? – ‘Qara’ is the key:

The parallels are introduced by Paul

2 Corinthians 4:6 (KJV): For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Paul the Apostle knew of a parallel between God commanding light to shine on a world that ‘was without form and void’ (‘tohuw’ and ‘bohuw’) and with its waters “covered” by darkness; comparing it to God shining light on Man’s darkened heart (his spirit and soul) – thereby introducing a parallel or metaphor of the whole world with Man’s spirit and soul.  Also, what God makes “available” – the light – then represents what God Himself does – His actions. The light ‘shined’ and gave knowledge – God gives knowledge with His light. Something from God is given to Man.

This book seeks to show these parallels are extendable, very precise and apply to every verse, every word and even every ‘every’ of Genesis 1 and 2; and to show they are much, much more than just a loose poetic allegory!

A metaphorically good call (‘qara’ – proclaim, call, call oneself)

‘Qara’ is used nine times in Genesis 1 and 2. In Genesis 2:23 we see it used to name (‘call’) a woman a ‘woman’ because she ‘came out of man’. I put emphasis on ‘called, because she came out of’, and something was now in someone else and not on the name ‘woman’. I will show how Genesis 2:19-20 twice describes Jesus and Adam ‘giving’ (‘qara’) ‘names’ to gifts given and received by the salvation process; these gifts are from one and given to another. The gist being, if it comes out of you and is “of you” but now “of someone else” – then you “proclaim” it. The first five other uses of ‘qara’ occur in Days 1-3 when the plain text individual roles of the Trinity are being established and it is not used after that. I suggest, in each case ‘qara’ is used it is used on words that represent the Trinity God’s “nature” or “substance” coming out of God and now being in Man just like ‘light’ in 2 Corinthians 4:6. (Please note ‘flesh’ and ‘bones’ referred to in Genesis 2:23 can also mean: nature or kin, and substance or essence, respectively.) Although the words have meaning in the literal as God ‘let be’, ‘made’ or ‘separated’ ‘qara’ items, it is within a kind of “prolonged metaphor” that this second meaning applies – this is from God and given to someone else and hence represents Him and is often the same as in Him.

God ‘gave names’ or ‘called’ (‘qara’) in Genesis 1 to: ‘darkness’ – ‘night’, ‘light’ – ‘day’, ‘firmament’ – ‘heaven’, ‘waters’ – ‘seas’ and ‘dry land’ – ‘earth’. All except ‘darkness’ could be interpreted to represent one of the Trinity’s actions like ‘light’ in the Corinthians passage.  Even ‘darkness’ (evil) could be considered to be “from God” because it is revealed by His light that ‘divided the light from the darkness’; hence its detection and “existence” is also from God. (This may give understanding to Isaiah 45:7 – ‘God created evil’.) I will show this interpretation of ‘qara’ will give an explanation for the similarities in the Trinity’s roles in Man’s salvation and remaking the world. I also suggest, the words associated with ‘qara’ unlock Genesis as never realised before.
